Alcohol at the Ale

We consider the safe, responsible, and legal consumption of alcohol to be a very serious matter worthy of a few special notes.

THE LEGAL AGE TO DRINK ALCOHOL IN VERMONT IS  21.

In order to drink alcohol at our private gathering, those who are younger than 35 years of age must obtain a proof of-age wristband by presenting a legal picture ID at the registration table in the Main Hall showing that you were born before May 23, 2004.

Any underage participant found to be consuming alcohol will be asked to leave the event, and will jeopardize their team’s ongoing participation in future Ales.

ADULTS…

We ask for community accountability for responsible consumption of alcohol. The Marlboro Morris Ale Association  could potentially face negative legal repercussions if  irresponsible consumption of alcohol occurs at our event;  this includes the risk of losing our ability to use the Potash  Hill campus in the future. As such, any adult who is found to  have knowingly provided alcohol to an underage individual  will be asked to leave the event and will jeopardize their  team’s ongoing participation in future Ales.

The Brattleboro Co-op is now the full-time on-site caterer for Potash Hill. In March 2024 they received their liquor license, meaning that they can now serve alcohol on site at Potash Hill.

What this means for the Ale:

  1. The Co-op will be serving beer, cider, and wine in the  Dining Hall Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings at the Ale.
  2. The Ale will be covering two beverages per attendee, using the poker chip method we’ve used for the last couple of years. Each attendee will get two poker chips at registration, to spend, share, sell, or squander at their own discretion. Additional drinks can be purchased from the Co-op at $6/each.
  3. The Co-op will also be providing champagne and wine at the feast. The  Ale will cover 2 glasses of wine per person at the feast  (no chips necessary – the Co-op will keep track) after which you can purchase additional wine. Beer and cider will be available during the feast as well.
  4. As was true last year, there is NO BYOB in the Dining Hall. This includes the patio area in front of the Dining Hall and under the tents. Outside alcohol may be consumed on the field and in other areas on campus.

We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we continue to find the best middle ground between the needs of Potash Hill, the Co-op, and the Ale with respect to providing alcohol. Please help us stay at this location by complying with the alcohol policy.

Pub Stop Courtesy

Food and drink will be available for purchase at lunch stops on Sunday. We are grateful for these local businesses and their willingness to be hosts for the Ale attendees now and in the future. Therefore PLEASE DO NOT BRING OUTSIDE FOOD or DRINK into any dining establishment. Thank you for your polite cooperation.

Open Containers

Vermont State Law strictly prohibits open containers of alcohol on the street or in vehicles.
